The threat is real — why this session matters now
Oracle EBS is typically deployed on-premises or in customer-managed cloud (including AWS, Azure and OCI) — which means you, not a SaaS vendor, own the patching, hardening and recovery. That responsibility has never carried higher stakes:
- Actively exploited, unauthenticated takeover. CVE-2026-46817 (CVSS 9.8) in the Oracle Payments component allows an unauthenticated attacker to compromise EBS over HTTP. It was patched in Oracle’s May 2026 update, exploited in the wild before any public proof-of-concept existed, and added to CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog in July 2026.
- Ransomware is already here. A series of critical EBS flaws — CVE-2025-61882 (CVSS 9.8, remote code execution) and CVE-2025-61884 (CVSS 7.5, SSRF) — were exploited for data theft and extortion, with activity linked to the Cl0p group. Both are in CISA’s KEV catalog.
- Recovery is the weak link. Traditional EBS disaster recovery is often manual, slow and rarely tested — turning a breach into days of downtime across payroll, accounting and procurement.
- Compliance exposure, not just downtime. Because the exposed component processes payment and financial data, a compromise carries PCI-DSS and SOX implications — and NIS2 / DORA reporting obligations for regulated EU entities.
- Patching is on you. Many EBS estates lag behind on Critical Patch Updates, leaving a widening, internet-facing attack surface.
